* mackenzie oliver hart ,
* back to basics ,
name : mackenzie oliver hart nicknames : kenzie, kenz, age : eighteen major : music birthday : february twenty-sixth sexuality : pansexual place of birth : philadelphia, pennsylvania
* the outer shell ,
celebrity play-by : alex gaskarth hair color : varies; his natural color is brown, but he's been known to dye it a darker shade, a lighter shade, or put blonde in it eye color : dark brown weight : one forty-three height : six foot one overall : if his personality doesn't make you pick him out of the crowd, then it'll probably be his appearance. you have some different parts to pick from. maybe it's his clothes. generally, he'll pick a band tee that has the most color or the most unusual picture on it and strut around while wearing it. if it's not a band tee, ninety percent of the time, it'll still have some random block lettering on it. neon colors against a black background tend to catch people's attention quiet nicely. thing is, if you take a closer look, you'll notice some other things that he likes to carry around with him. we've already gone over his outfit - yeah, it's that simple. he doesn't pay attention to trends, let alone follow them. sometimes, he'll wear short shorts just to be funny, but otherwise, he'll stick with jeans.
he's usually wearing one or the other of the following items. the first would be beanie. usually, it'll be a black one and he'll wear it no matter what he's doing, except he might take it off to go swimming or to go take a shower. he doesn't know when he started wearing them, except that he's quite fond of his hats. if you so much as damage one, he won't be too happy with you. the second is the collection of bracelets he has on his wrist. not metal bracelets or anything like that - things like friendship bracelets made with thread and beads. and yes, he does have an actual collection of them, although he'll make a face if you refer to it as that. collection just sounds so boring, like having a pile of rocks organized by color. he wears his at random and most are from friends. he first started when his sister made one and gave it to him for his birthday. they were six, okay? the second was from a girlfriend in seventh grade. before that, he had just kept them hidden away somewhere in his closet. but, he decided to take them out and starting wearing them everyday.
mackenzie's hair color varies. a lot. he first dyed it when he was twelve and was happy when he did so, so he continued to change it every few years or just whenever he got bored with how it looked. the color has changed at least ten times, but the style remained the same. it was usually messy and covered with one of his precious beanies, but you could still see what it looked like. his bangs are partly in his face, sometimes becoming just a nuisance. you know how emo/scene haircuts are, but his aren't entirely that. his bangs are never covering half of his face and rarely hiding one eye, even. he puts them to the side and they just sort of stay there. it'll usually just reach his shoulders in the very back, although pieces will stick out in random directions. he has no interest in looking neat and perfect.
* what you see ,
overall personality : remember the kid who would make some simple remark in class? just one phrase, and it set the class laughing hysterically. teachers would purse their lips and the strict would start scolding him. in high school, it landed him into detention various times. it came naturally to him, the reactions that would pop into mind when somebody said something. the older he grew, the more perverted the jokes became. some of them were just annoying from the start and that's how some people thought of him. when he was younger, he knew to control his mouth. now he's lost that control and just lets loose whatever he thinks he should say. if you're going to ask if he says stupid things, then, yes, he says stupid things all the time. he's a boy, and a very immature one. he probably behaves worse than an eight-year-old on crack.
being funny has its upsides, though. he can cheer people up and usually get out of trouble. with a good-natured grin - something that is seen on his face very often - and a small comment that'll make that somebody laugh, he can sneak away without any punishment. that was what he did with his teachers and it worked with about one. apparently, when you get old and pissy, jokes are only funny if you are also old and pissy, of which he is neither. the worst that would happen is that he would get another day of detention just for being a smartass. now, he can be nice while being funny, but he can also be an ass. for math all throughout high school, he had the worst teacher ever. she looked like some witch off of a fairytale movie with her crooked nose, hunched back, and giant, hairy mole on her forehead. she would explode at any whisper a student made, any movement that she thought was connected to passing a note or texting. of course, they did it anyways, and that wasn't why she was such an ass. it didn't help that she was mackenzie's neighbor.
this woman connected mackenzie with rilee and when she stopped attending school, she had it figured out. how the hell the woman knew, he didn't know. but she brought it up at any chance she could and mackenzie was left in a horrible mood whenever he left the mood. any comments that he made were harsh and sarcastic, his happy grin gone from his face and instead replaced with a glare. it's not like he gets like this every time somebody tries to piss him off; certain topics are sensitive and family is one of them. if it was about anything else, he'd just laugh and crack a few jokes. if that didn't work - hey, some people aren't going to get over their anger just because he's hilarious - then, well, what are you supposed to do? he'll rarely ever react in the way most would: fight and argue back. it was stupid to fight back because the teachers had some idiotic policy that it didn't matter who started it. if you hit back, you were in as much trouble as they were. and the adults weren't too fond of him to begin with.
he strives for two main things. one, stand out, and two, attention. both of clearly connected in the way that he feels the need to be that one kid who people look at, wonder who the hell he is and why he's doing what he's doing or saying what he's saying, and remember him for at least a couple of minutes. he doesn't want to be some piece of wallpaper and if he ever became one... let's hope that doesn't happen. thing is, he doesn't care if he gets positive or negative attention. he'll do a cartwheel on the sidewalk in the city and little kids will giggle and point. adults will mutter under their breath how immature and irresponsible teenagers are these days. the one thing he can't stand is being ignored. that's one way to really piss him off. actually, no. it's one way to get him to suck up his pride and apologize for whatever he did this time. by the way, mackenzie is a very competitive person. he'll make bets over anything and everything. of course, he'll live up to his word if he loses the bet, but isn't too giddy when that happens. and sometimes, standing out is just being the badass kid who doesn't listen to anybody. that was during high school, and high school's over. doesn't mean he's still going to like a complete moron.
mackenzie might have the potential to be a great boyfriend. his relationships, although numerous, have never been that serious. he's heard "i love you" once or twice, but has never been able to say it back. does he love you? nobody knows, not even kenz him self. that's a confusing concept for all and he won't believe you if you say you've got the whole thing figured out. he doubts that it's even possible and thinks the sayings of soul mates and love at first sight is just plain stupid. if you love somebody when just seeing them, then you're a shallow dumbass. really. at times, he's cheated because of alcohol, but he doesn't try to hurt everybody else's feelings. the relationship just ends up hitting a barrier that nobody has passed. maybe you've got the magic secret to breaking down that wall completely.

father : jared hart // fifty-three // architecture design mother : melanie gates-hart // fifty-two // marine biologist brothers : n/a sisters : isabella hart // twenty-four // bartender rilee hart // seventeen // drop-out pets : n/a other : anything else need mentioning
history : let's skip how jared and melanie met and zoom right to mackenzie and rilee's birth. isabella was their first child and already seven at the time they had been born. the couple had been trying for a child and were about to give up after bella, deciding that they weren't meant to have another child. of course, that was when melanie discovered she was pregnant. and, guess what? not with one child, but twins. it was quite the nice little surprise and just to be different, they used unisex names. mackenzie still thinks his parents were high off of sharpies when they named him because mackenzie is used for girls, not boys. he believes he's the only boy on the entire planet with the name. oh, well. it beats having a super-common super-boring name. as for rilee, her name didn't bother her. nothing bothered her, actually. she was very silent as a child and when they grew into the toddler stage, it would be mackenzie who would walk somewhere and rilee that would follow him. if you separated the two, be prepared for a frenzy of screaming and yelling from both children.
yes, they were close. they were the best of friends and even though they didn't fight with isabella (their parents were amazed, as they had expected children to be children and try to rip each others' throats out for taking their stuffed elephant.) much, nobody could deny that the two were closer than siblings could be. when they entered school, there was a small argument over making friends or not. that is, if you consider a few looks and nudges to be an argument. they spoke silently, but understood each other as if they had recited a paragraph. mackenzie was, once again, the leader and would walk over to a group of kids and just sit next to them. rilee followed shyly, although she didn't like to talk to anybody but mackenzie. as they grew older, that didn't change. she would rather talk to her brother rather than her parents, even though they weren't horrible. they just knew each other perfectly, like they could read each other's minds. no, they remained the best of friends until the end. but the end came too quickly.
elementary and middle school zipped past. mackenzie had been taking guitar lessons since he was twelve and had been learning for two years. he was pretty good, but it was much too early to tell if he was going to get a job involving music. that would be the best, but he just didn't know yet. the summer before ninth grade, the family moved to the big city of new york. the reason was just a job transfer for melanie. she worked as a dolphin trainer and the zoo needed a new trainer. it paid well since it was such a large and well-known zoo and hey, moving to new york didn't sound like such a bad idea. thing was, back in philly, mackenzie was pretty popular. not the most popular, but he was easygoing and knew how to make friends. he would be able to make new friends at new york and there was no doubt about it. however, rilee was the complete opposite of mackenzie. she hated speaking to new people, she hated being around strangers. so, when the morons who ran the school decided that the twins would have only one class together, gym, she got new friends.
mackenzie didn't notice who she hung out with because he never saw them together. they had lunch together, but sometimes he would sit with a crowd of people and she would rather not be there. half-way into ninth grade, melanie and jared got a call from school. the secretary was confused as to why rilee was missing so much school and hinting that they should come pick up work for her. melanie was the one who got the call and her first thought was that they really needed to hire people with more intelligence than a rock. she, annoyed, informed her that rilee had been at school for the past two weeks and longer. the secretary decided not to argue and allowed melanie to figure out the problem. when kenzie got home that day, his mother attacked him with questions the moment he got in the house. she asked if rilee had been on the bus, and he replied, "i thought you had picked her up early." they decided to be calm and rational, although they called isabella. she knew nothing about it, but when she checked her cell phone for messages, there were several from rilee. they all said something like "don't worry, mom," or "if they find out, i'll be home by ten." that did not help them much.
ten came and passed. just before melanie was about to call the cops, rilee burst into the room. she looked normal and asked why everybody looked so panicky. mackenzie, of course, bothered her about where the hell she had been when they were away from their parents. she just gave him the answer she gave their mother and father. she claimed that she had been at a friend's. thing is, this started become more and more frequent. one friday night, she didn't come home at all. mackenzie was texting her every second and didn't sleep until she came home. to protect her ass, knowing she was doing something stupid, he told jared that she was staying at a friend's until saturday. if she didn't come home saturday, then he would be worried too. finally, at about two in the morning, the door opened. his parents were sound asleep and weren't the lightest sleepers on the planet. a marching band could have gone by and neither would stir. he raced down the stairs, flicked on the lights only to see his sister in a horrible state.
she was clutching to the stair railing and when she took her hand off it, she nearly fell over. she avoided looking at mackenzie and kept one sweaty hand on the railing, the other clutching her stomach. she grunted to mackenzie and he took that as a signal to help her upstairs. he was angry at her for doing this to herself, putting all the pieces together. when she had been dumped onto her bed, he didn't allow her to sleep. besides, he had stayed up all night worrying over her. she could wait a few seconds before passing out. "so, how long have you been lying straight to my face?" he questioned stiffly. it was a weird feeling, that betrayal, but definitely an unpleasant one. he felt guilty for being angry at her, but felt angry at himself for feeling guilty. it was an emotional roller coaster and it was making his stomach do uneasy backflips.
"i'm sorry, kenzie, i'm sorry," she whispered hoarsely, crying silently. the anger faded that quickly and he sighed, hugging her and rocking her to sleep. they kept the secret to themselves. after that night, the partying and drinking became less frequent. she stopped altogether when ninth grade was over and entered tenth grade with a smile. and tenth grade passed; eleventh grade came. the twins were closer than ever, until he had been called to the office. he thought it was the principal getting ready to lecture him for the tenth time about disrupting class. sure, the principal was there. but so was his parents and most importantly, rilee. they spoke for an hour and although i won't bore you with the details, mackenzie's voice rose several times and he ended up yelling instead of arguing calmly. who the hell argues calmly, anyways?
to sum what the principal said, rilee had one last chance before she was sent to rehab or somewhere else. word spread about who that rilee girl really was and the day following that, mackenzie was asked several questions about her. "does she do drugs? do you do drugs?" "you're that girl's brother, right? the one who got caught with coke?" and he would push the questions off. he became known as the other twin brother, which wasn't fantastic, but he had better things to worry about. after convincing the principal that it was for the best, they had all classes together. that way, he could make sure she was there in class and didn't do anything stupid. it worked for a couple of weeks. the only thing was that he couldn't control every second of her day.
when he was called to the office again, he was dreading what he knew he was going to say. he could have sworn rilee had been on the bus, but she definitely wasn't in school. and there she was, in the office, tears falling silently onto her pants. the difference from this time? isabella was there. she stared helplessly at the wall and when mackenzie came in, her emotions were apologetic. kenzie didn't care that it was 'wrong' for a boy to hit a girl. he had to be kept in a room away from her to calm down. how the heck was he supposed to calm down? his older sister had turned his twin in, and now she was being sent to some place for crazy people. no, not crazy people, but the closet thing to it. a week later, he was saying goodbye to rilee at the airport. she was going to some place in los angeles, all the way around the freaking world.
when he graduated high school, his parents wanted to move to california. he didn't want to because he had heard about new york's academy of the arts. he was great at playing guitar and had a habit of singing to the song he was playing softly and rilee informed him that he didn't suck. even though he had a reason to move away from new york and better yet, to los angeles, he stayed. sure, isabella would be in the city, but he couldn't leave because of her. and he loved his sister dearly, but it's not like he would be able to see her. he'd be in college, she'd be in where the hell ever. he had worried enough about her and decided to take a chance. his mother wasn't fully approving, but he got as much as approval as he was going to get from the woman. maybe he would actually get somewhere in the music business, maybe not.
