snow fell outside, sprinkling the ground with a thin layer of snow that looked more like confectionary sugar than anything. charlotte rhodes was used to snow; when you’ve lived in the northern states your whole life, it was something you grew accustomed to. now, from her dorm room window, she looked out as the snow fell over new york. she did love snow, but there was always a downside to it. too many people were afraid to drive in snow, and that meant there wasn’t much that you could do besides sit in your dorm room, maybe hang out with a friend or two, and hope the day went by quickly. with a sigh, charlotte got up from her bed, where she’d been laying since she woke up that morning, and flipped on the television.
“i wanna go to friendly’s!” that was the first thing that she heard after turning on the tv. that song sang through her head over and over. she’d seen that commercial about twenty times on tv within that week alone, and it was really starting to get to her. she didn’t care about blue soda and chicken that you could dip into whatever sauces they gave you, or at least usually she didn’t. still, when you heard that saying over and over again, you started to think “maybe i DO wanna go to friendly’s!” so she got up, dressed herself in something other than pajamas, threw her hair in a messy ponytail ,and went out to face the snow.
the popular ice cream parlor wasn’t that far away, so she decided to brave the lightly falling snow and walk there. it was a ten minute walk, if that, and outside was always so pretty when it was covered in snow and ice. she bundled up as best she could, grabbing her warmest coat, hat, gloves and scarf. still, it wasn’t all that cold, or at least to her. she loved the cold more than anything.
finally, she made it to the restaurant that she’d been heading to. the host at the door was friendly, true to the name of the restaurant, and sat her in the first booth on the left side of the restaurant. she quickly removed her jacket, scarf, gloves and hat, and rubbed her red cheeks with her warmed hands to bring them back to the normal temperature. she scanned the menu quickly, looking for something appealing.

Even as he walked into the store, pushing open the door, with one foot in the store, he could see his breath. He shivered, his teeth chattering loudly, he quickly hustled in pausing to unwind his scarf and pull off his tobagon and shake his messy hair into dissaray. HIs eyes caught the hanger, already decorated with assortments of different winter wear. Anything from, Marc to Walmart hung on the metal hooks. Choosing an open spot Caden hung his things there and made his way to the counter. Leaning forward he shifted his weight to one leg and rested his chin on his hand gazing contemplatively at the menu. An attractive worker walked up,a bit shyly, Can I help you?
He grinned warmly at the girl, she had to be sixteen at the most, out of his range. He nodded momentarily and pulled out his wallet, not breaking eye-contact with the menu overhead. Could I have a mocha laite(sp?) with whipped cream? The girl nodded curtly and took his money dispositing his change in his open palm. He gave her a smile of thanks as she turned to go prepare his order.
Caden stepped out of the way for an older elderly lady and her small grandchild as the young boy pointed excitedly at one of the oversized cookies. He smiled and turned, leaning his back agianst the counter as he waited for his order to be brouhgt out. His eyebrows arched though as he spotted a young brunette, absolutely goregous, and he swore he'd seen her before.

sienna crossed the slush-filled street, squishing her soaked toes together in her warm tan boots with the white fuzzy stuff on the inside, which made them incredibly comfotable. still, clad in her best winter clothes, suri was exceptionally cold. walking down the street she gazed up at the signs for different stores, shrugging and finding a reason not to go to each of them. closing her eyes and looking nearly straight up, sie opened her mouth to see if she could catch a snowflake on her tongue. she felt her foot hit someone else - probably a shoe, and completely stopped, looking ahead to see who she kicked. the older oriental woman walking fast-paced in front of her was giving her a dirty look, and turned around before sie could apologize.
walking in the winter, while it was snowing in new york city was one of the most amazing sights she had ever seen. well, it was before the plows came by and clumped all the dirty snow on street corners, making the city look messy and ugly. sie looked to her right and saw a snow-covered cab car, which she made an attempt to catch, just to avoid walking home in the cold. as soon as the driver noticed the dancer's hand go up, calling him, he flashed a red 'out of service' sign on the roof of his car. sie sighed, and happened to look up, and saw the friendlie's sign. normally sienna would only visit this place in the summer when ice cream was more popular, to beat the new york city sun.
suri pushed open the door and walked right up to the counter, since there was nobody in the line to order food in. she told the younger cashier that she wanted a hot chocolate with a little whipped cream. sie turned around and leaned on the counter, facing away from it, and saw someone she didn't think she'd see here. she saw her roommate, charlotte, waiting in the pick-up line. "heys." she said warmly, joining her friend in the back of the line. sienna shivvered, brushing a few flakes of snow off of her dark hair. she wondered why, of all places, she decided to come to an ice cream parlor when she was freezing her bum off, but quickly kicked the thought from her mind. it was a sienna thing, probably.

char scanned the menu above the counter quickly, looking for something good. finally, she decided against ordering real food. she'd been considering ordering something simple like chicken fingers or a quick burger, but she thought that would take to long. there was still the possibility that someone might call her with something interesting to do, and she didn't want to be tied down by the fact that she was still waiting for something like chicken fingers. she decided that a milkshake was the best choice, even though it was freezing outside. there was never a bad time for a chocolate milkshake.
she moved over to the pickup line, glancing to her right at all the empty tables. she picked one for after her milkshake was ready; it was by the window so if no one she knew came around, she could just gaze outside at the snow. either way, it wouldn't exactly be a waste of the afternoon. she'd been laying on her bed doing nothing before, so it was better to go out and do nothing. someone else ordered something, but char was too absorbed in trying to find a table to go to after getting her milkshake.
she was shaken out of her thoughts when someone started talking, the voice directed at her. she blinked a few times and tried to find the source of the voice. it came from her roommate, sienna, who was standing with her at the back of the line; she must have been he one who came in. "hey!" she said cheerfully. she was happy that sienna was here; now she didn't have to look like a loser just watching the snow. she backed up to make more room for sienna to stand and ended up backing right into the person that was waiting in front of her. "sorry!" she said quickly, turning around to see a brunette boy that looked quite familiar.

The mind always seems to wander. And in this case Caden's was not an exception. He was gazing contemplatively outside watching the snow drift lazily to the icy black street below. Of course, each snow flake was small, insignificant on it's own. But, when they combined; they were quite a force. The snowdrifts on the side of the rode, proved this. His ears caught the distant ring of a bell, probably some lunatic trying to weather it over here to get ice cream.. in this weather? He shook his head but grinned, how strange the human mind was. Audrina was probably still asleep after their trip last night, and he couldn't help but grin at the rememberance of the crazy night at the club. But now, as he wore a refreshed face and bright eyes, there was no sign of a long night out on the town. Much less the alchol(sp?) They had consumed that night.
Snared in his thoughts, he faintly heard the conversation of two girls as they order. Their voices were light and care free, almost hypnotic. What was it about women that could capture a man so easily? He smiled warmly and the thoughts melted away to a content state as he returned to watching the snow fall to the ground. But the state was shattered as he felt a body bump into him. Assuming she was falling he quickly grabbed her shoulder, not roughly, but smoothly with a steady hand. As he came to full attention he realized she was fine. Standing, looking at him with wide hazel green eyes and flushed cheeks. Humored by her innocent look he allowed a small chuckle to revirbirate in his chest as he let his arms fall to his sides. No, no it's quite alright. I honestly thought you were falling. He offered his hand in greeting. I'm Caden, though I must say I believe I've seen you both before. He glanced at the other girl and tried to restrain himself from letting his jaw hit the ground. She was goregous too. What luck, picking up girls in a coffee shop? Not a conventional idea. But he kept his sincere look as he gazd from one girl to the next. I never forget a pretty face. He offered a charming grin at the two.

sienna covered her mouth and coughed, hoping she wasn't getting a cold before the holidays. that would be totally unwanted, seeing as the winter holidays were pretty much everyone's favorite time of the year. there were songs that stated that very fact. and those very songs came across the radio vents at friendly's. normally the large amounts of christmas music aggravated sie, but today it didn't seem to bother her. she gazed back up at the menu, not sure if she should've ordered food or not, though she wasn't hungry or not. she wasn't the type of girl to obsess over her weight, being the type of person who you'd see in her dorm watching movies with a big bowl of popcorn. being a dancer gave her quite a workout, and along with her fast metabolism, she was the kind of person who 'didn't gain weight'.
as char started to back up, sie put an arm up and opened her mouth to talk, but she was too late. she watched her friend back into the guy in front of her. sie laughed softly, bringing the hand that she was going to put out to stop charlotte from backing up across her mouth to hide the smile. sie looked from her friend to the guy, who turned around to see what was going on, and realized that he looked pretty familiar. new york was a big place, and after living here her whole life she had seen a lot of faces, but she was sure she'd seen him before. sie gazed at the floor shyly, not saying a word when he first spoke. sienna glanced further up the line, trying to figure out what was taking so long. when the boy, whose name turned out to be caden, spoke for the third time, sie smiled sincerely at him and said, "i'm sienna." ________________ note; sorry it took so long! and that its kinda sucky. xmas shopping a few days before christmas is hell.

for the first time since stepping into the restaurant, charlotte heard the obnoxiously loud christmas songs playing in the background. a small smile crept onto her face. perhaps she was immune to the sound of christmas music now; being so close to the holidays, there was barely a place in new york that wasn't playing it. she hummed along to the tune of the music playing while she waiting for her milkshake and whatever it was sienna ordered.
she was extremely caught off guard by the fact that there was someone standing in the area she'd backed up into, but she was even more caught off guard by the fact that whoever it was she backed into grabbed her shoulder. she felt her face blush red as both sienna and the victim of her clumsiness let out a laugh at her expense. she let out a fake laugh, too, trying to relieve herself of the extreme awkwardness she felt. "no, not falling. i guess i just have to watch where i'm walking more carefully."
when she heard him say that he thought he'd seen them before, she was reassured that she had, in fact, met him before. if both of them looked familiar to each other, they had to have met at some point. and if sienna looked familiar to him, too, maybe it was at school? "i'm charlotte, but considering that name sounds like it belongs to a grandmother, people call me char." she said, smiling sheepishly while trying to gain back some of the dignity she'd lost in falling into the boy. "do you, by any chance, go to the academy of the arts here? if we both look familiar, i can't really think of any other explanation."
