You can bow and pretend That you don't, don't, know you're a legend Time, time, time hasn't told anyone else yet Let my love loose again
Ahhhhh….Saturday morning. Most normal college student would spend this day sleeping in until noon, and then lazily lay around the house until something or someone provided them with excitement. Well Garret Lee Dublin was no normal college student. No, Garret Dublin was a college student with a daughter. So he was lucky if he got to sleep in past eight.
Today, Kaylee was feeling like an early bird, and Garret woke to the site of his three year old daughter bouncing on his bed saying “Daaaaadyyy. Daaaadyyy. I wanna get miiiiiillllllkkkk.” Peaking open his left eye, he gave a small smirk before grabbing her. “You couldn’t let me sleep in until nine could you? What time is it anyway?” He more or less asked himself out loud. He stole a glance at the clock, and noticed it was only six forty five. With a groan, he got up and headed to the kitchen.
Garret wanted his coffee, and he wanted it now. Shit Gar muttered as he reached for the coffee pack that wasn’t there. Apparently he had used the last one the day before, which meant he would just have to deal with a Mountain Dew instead. Pouring some milk into a cup for Kaylee, Garret grabbed a Mountain Dew and chugged half of it. Well, atleast he would be semi-awake now.
Picking up Kaylee he took her into her room and got her dressed. Sitting her in front of Dora the Explorer, he went to get himself ready. After showering and getting ready, he threw on some clothes, and fixed his hair. Glancing at the clock, he saw it was five after seven. Eck. He hated being up this early. Walking back into the kitchen, he grabbed his Mountain Dew and went to sit with Kaylee. He grinned as she stood up on the couch, never taking her eyes off the T.V. and sat on his lap.
As Dora said something in Spanish, Garret pulled his phone out and texted his girlfriend, Jayden Weir. He smiled as they passed back and forth a few witty text messages. Finally, he dialed her number and called her. The two of them had been dating for about two and a half months now, and Garret could admit that he really liked the girl. Did he love her? No…he didn’t really think he loved her, he didn’t exactly have his heart back to give away yet. But he defiantely cared for her. Maybe that’s why he had started using the L word around her so much.
” Hey babe, what are you doing. –pause- Well I was going to see if you wanted to hang out with Kaylee and me today –pause- Yea, I was thinking we could go over to La Bella Vista –pause- Dude, I work there. We don’t need a reservation. –pause- Okay love, I’ll be there in ten minutes. Love you, Bye” He smiled as he hung up the phone. “Kaylee, Go get your shoes. We’re going to go pick up Jayden.” He smiled even wider when Kaylee got excited and said “Weally?!?! Yay! I wove Jayden!” and he watched as she ran into her room and grabbed her shoes. Putting his own on, he grabbed his car keys, wallet, phone, kid, and headed down to the car.
Driving the short distance from his apartment to hers, he pulled into a parking spot. Turning on Kaylee’s ridiculous music, which had songs such as twinkle twinkle little star and the wheels on the bus, and then texted Jayden to let her know they were out side. If it had just been him, he would have went inside to get her, but he didn’t want to have to drag Kaylee out of her car seat, then put her back in. Plus, she’d throw much less of fit if he just left her in there. Drumming his fingers on the wheel and humming to himself, he waited for Jayden to come down.

sing us a song and we'll sing it back to you we could sing our own but what would it be without you
jayden was a weird girl. on saturdays instead of sleeping in like most teenagers she knew did, she was one of those girls that was up by six thirty on saturdays, despite the fact that there were no classes that day. but there she was, almost seven, up and awake. she was sitting on the couch, reading her book, her iPod headphones in her ears, and a bowl of cereal in her lap as well. taking a bite of her cherrios, she placed the spoon back into the bowl that was at her side.
she was reading Breaking Dawn, and so far she was enjoying it. sure, she was only in the first few chapters, so that was bound to change. but just as she was about to turn the page, she felt her phone go off beside her. pulling her headphones out, she saw that garret texted her. smiling, she picked up her phone, glancing at his text. her and garret had been steady for about two and a half months now. everything was g oing good between them; they talked constantly, and hung out a lot at each others apartments. mostly at his, because of his little daughter kaylee. jayden loved the girl; she was so precious. sometimes she'd even read a little something to her every night before she went to bed.
she texted him back, and that went on for quite a bit. just as soon as she was starting to read again, her phone went off again, this time for a call. picking it up, she answered. immediately hearing garret's voice, she smiled. "Yeah, hanging out sounds good. where?" she listened to him for a bit. "la bella vista? don't you need a reservation?" she rolled her eyes as he talked more, and hearing him say he'd be there in ten minutes, she nodded, even though it was a phone conversation. "All right. i love you. bye." that was a little awkward thing between them; lately he'd started saying that a lot, but she'd felt so compelled to say it. like she had to. but she'd also found herself saying it without saying it first. did she really love him? she wasn't sure yet, but she did like him.
realizing she was wasting her time, she jumped up, grabbing her bowl just in time before it fell over. dropping it in the sink, she went to her bedroom, deciding what to wear. she usually didn't care, but whenever it was garret she was a bit more careful with what she wore. finallly as she picked out an outfit, she looked in the mirror, frowing. her hair was still bedhead messy, and she still looked beat. she wasn't one for make up, so she started with her hair. brushing it through so there were no tangles in her hair, she fixed herself up a bit so that she didn't look dead. she was back in the kitchen, deciding to wash the bowl, when she felt her phone go off in her pocket. seeing his text, she glanced out the window; sure enough, his silver Volvo was there.
grabbing her iPod off the couch, she shoved her feet through her shoes and went out the door. making sure it was locked behind her, she walked down the six stairs til she was standing outside his car. opening the passenger door, she slid into the passenger seat. closing the door, she turned to him, but first, she turned to kaylee, who was sitting in the backseat. "hey, precious. how're you?" she smiled at her; she was absolutely adorable. turning back to garret, she grinned slightly. leaning over, she kissed his cheek gently; she wasn't sure about the whole kissing thing with kaylee; they hadn't been together for that with her around...
"did she wake you up early again?" the girl was probably the only one that could wake garret up at six thirty in the morning without getting yelled at. though she hadn't ever heard of anyone else trying that at all yet. "so, la bella vista? are you sure?" it didn't have to be that fancy or anything; they could have just as easily gone to a park or something, and she would have been totally fine with it. sometimes she just felt bad about it because they had the tiny 'fights' about who'd pay, and a lot of the time, he won. and that made her feel awful.

You can bow and pretend That you don't, don't, know you're a legend Time, time, time hasn't told anyone else yet Let my love loose again
Garret looked up in time to see Jayden locking her door. He smiled, she looked very lovely, and he planned on telling her so. Jayden was one of those girls who would look beautiful in sweats and an oversized sweatshirt, not that she would ever let him see her in one. “Daddy! I see Jayden!”
Kaylee said excitedly. It was easy to tell that Kaylee absolutely adored Jayden. In fact, he often had to ask someone to watch Kaylee when he wanted to hang out with Jayden, simply because he wouldn’t get to spend time with her. Kaylee would insist on Jayden playing with her, and reading to her. So Garret would end up just sitting on the couch watching the tube. “Yep Honey, she’s on her way.” he said with a smile as he watched Jayden make her way over to the car. He leaned over to open the door for her, but she had already had it opened. He smiled at her as she slid into the seat and closed the door. He leaned over to kiss her, but she had turned around to address Kaylee. He pouted out his bottom lip slightly. “I fine. We going to eat at daddies an aunt awdwenas work.” Kaylee informed Jayden with a wide smile. Garret smiled as he watched her in the rear view mirror. His little girl was the most precious thing he had ever laid eyes on. He was pulled from his thoughts when he felt Jayden kiss him on the cheek. He laughed, and grabbed her chin, pulling her forward and planting a kiss on her lips. “My darling, its not like we’re having s-e-x in front of her or anything. She sees this on those children’s shows I’m sure.”Putting the Volvo in reverse, he pulled out of the parking spot, and then out on the street. He nodded slightly, a slight scowl on his face, but the scowl turned into a smirk as he answered her. “Yes. Otherwise, I would just now be rolling out of bed. But you know that I cant stay in bed when my little girl is up and about.” he said as they neared the entrance to La Bella Vista. Grinning as she asked if he was sure he wanted to go to La Bella Vista, “Absolutely, well, unless you don’t like this place, we can go to a different fancy restaurant if you would like.” he asked, slightly concerned on if he had done something wrong. Parking the car in the spot he normally pulled in when he worked, he turned the car off and stepped out. Walking around to the other side, he opened the door for Jayden, then proceeded to open the back door and get Kaylee out of her car seat. Putting her down on the ground, he went to straighten out her shirt, but she took off towards Jayden with her hands in the air, her sign of demanding to be picked up. Garret shook his head and laughed, Kaylee could be so demanding with out even saying anything. He walked over to Jayden and took her free hand in his own. She had such tiny hands, but then again, most girls did have small hands. Leading her to he door, he opened the door with his free hand and allowed her to enter first. Walking over to the host stand, he noticed that a new host was there. It wouldn’t be as easy to get a table now. Walking up to the stand, he leaned over and said, “Yea, I need a table for two.” Watching the guy look him over, the host tilted his head up and stiffly said “Do you have a reservation?” Garret shook his head and said “No, but I work here. I’m sure you can squeeze us in. He said looking back at Jayden and nodding once, as if to assure her that he had everything under control. He turned back to the host. Smiling grimly at Garret shook his head. “No reservations, no table.”. Garret was getting slightly aggravated now. After all, the guy did work here, he knew that they allowed people to eat here when they didn’t have reservations, reservations were just suggested to insure a table. In fact, when garret got to looking, he could see at least three open tables that would fit Jayden, Kaylee and himself. “Okayy, Mr.-“ he took a moment to look at the mans nametag that they were all required to wear “Brian. I really don’t see how you can-“ “Garret!” he heard his general manager Liz say as she crossed the room. “I wasn’t expecting you to come by today! How are you dear! Is Kaylee with you?” Garret gave a smug to Brian, and then gestured for Jayden to come over. “Hey Liz. I wasn’t really expecting to come until about a half hour ago. I’m doing fine though, just brought Kaylee and my girlfriend Jayden to eat, but apparently I have to have a reservation” he said with an over exaggerated sigh, almost as if he was admitting defeat. “Oh honey please! You don’t need a reservation here! Just follow me dear, I’ll personally wait on you.” Liz said grabbing two things of silver wear and some crayons and a color mat for Kaylee. Garret grabbed Jayden’s hand once more, and leaned over to whisper in her ear “Auds is convinced that Liz has a thing for me.” he said with a very amused smile. sing us a song and we'll sing it back to you we could sing our own but what would it be without you
hearing kaylee's adorable little voice explain the plans for the day, she nodded. "well, i'm sure tha'tll be just fun!" she said, smiling at her before turning back forward in her seat. the girl was adorable. everytime jayden had gone over to garret's house, she'd always wanted jayden to either play with her or read to her or do something. she didn't mind at all; she thought it was cute. garret would just have to hang out at her place or somewhere else and have someone else babysit. usually it was emma or audrina. other times she would go over and they'd watch kaylee and a movie or kaylee would watch and her and garret would go on and do their own thing.
feeling him take her chin, she kissed him back before pulling away. hearing him, she felt heat rush to her face slightly, but she laughed. "well, i don't watch kids shows. so what if she learned it now by us?" she shook her head at him, but she smiled just the same. hearing him answer her question, she couldn't help but laugh; the girl was precious. turning around, she spoke to her. "kaylee sweetie, make sure to wake your daddy up tomorrow morning nice and early, okay? that way he can get jayden's special surprise. do you want a special surprise too?" she could tell by the girl's growing smile that she wanted a surprise too. she'd just have to go shopping to night.
hearing him, she shook her head. "no, no, no. it's perfect. i just feel bad for some reason." she muttered the last part, feeling slightly stupid. she felt bad about how he would take her to fancy places like this, even if he did work there. she was just one of those people that had a hard time accepting gifts because of feelings of guilt. but she got out of her thoughts when she heard the side door opening. stepping out, she stood on her tiptoes quickly, kissing his lips gently before pulling back so he could take kaylee out of her car seat. she closed her door and waited as he took her out, and she laughed as the little girl ran up to her as garret was attempting to fix her shirt. picking her up, she held her up as garret took her other hand. "she sure has a lot of energy." but she smiled at the cutie just the same.
she followed garret as he led the way up the stairs to the restaurant. she'd been up there a few times whenever he was working, and she'd visit him, even though she couldn't afford eating there at all. her monthly rent was hard enough to pay; she couldn't go out and waste her money to eat. even eating homemade spaghetti every night still left a huge whole in her money supply. snapping out of her thoughts as he held the door open, she smiled at him before walking in with kaylee. she watched as garret went up to the host. the host didn't exactly look friendly.... she bit her lip as he asked if they had a reservation, and she looked at garret. hearing the host say no reservation, no table, she took his hand, talking in a quiet voice. "it's okay; maybe we could..." but she didn't finish as he started talking again. but garret was also cut off when a woman say his name. looking at the woman, she raised an eyebrow slightly. but hearing garret mention her and kaylee, she stepped over to him, standing next to him as he explained the situation. hearing his manager talking, she smiled slightly as she grabbed the silverware the the crayons, obviously for kaylee, and she watched the woman walk away. hearing him whisper in her ear as he took her hand, she smiled, trying not to laugh. she leaned up slightly, making sure to hold on tight to kaylee. "i think she might be right. but you can do much better." the thought of garret even considering an older woman like that was a scary thought.
they followed the woman to one of the tables in the back that seated three. she had even gotten a booster seat for kaylee. the woman was definitely considerate. or she had a strong thing for garret. "now, if you guys need anything, don't hesitate to call me, okay dear?" the woman's voice was clearly for the three of them, but she noticed the woman's eyes on garret. rolling her eyes, she looked at him meaningfully as the woman turned around and left. "she really does have a thing for you. should i be worried?" she pretended to sound upset, but he would probably be able to tell she was kidding. setting kaylee down in her own little booster seat, she sat down in the chair next to the booster seat.
"how've things been, love?" she was always slightly worried about garret and kaylee. she could just imagine how much stress he would be dealing with. kaylee herself could be quite a handful at times, but with college and work, she just knew she wouldn't have been able to manage. she admired garret for being able to hand all that. she was about to speak again when a waiter came up to their table. she listened politely as the boy seemed to take his time reciting the specials, and she felt the slightest bit uneasy as the boy's eyes stayed on her as he talked. she looked at garret for a minute before ordering baked ziti. after the boy had taken garret's order ( jayden still couldn't help but notice another 'meaningful' glance from the waiter ), she looked back at him. she shrugged before trying to continue the conversation as though the boy's looks hadn't slightly creeped her out. "so.... how's the hunt for a band coming along?" she remembered how they'd talked before about garret wanted to start a band. she'd been fully behind him, and still was. there were a ton of musicians around; how could he not find some people to be in a band with?

You can bow and pretend That you don't, don't, know you're a legend Time, time, time hasn't told anyone else yet Let my love loose again
“Well she has to learn sometime doesn’t she? he asked with a mischievous grin. He of course was just joking. Garret would never do anything around his daughter that he deemed inappropriate. A quick kiss was the extent of it. If caught her watching a movie with a make out session on it, he would flip the channel, or occupy her until the moment passed. But he was just weird like that.
He laughed as he heard Jayden tell Kaylee to wake Garret up nice and early tomorrow. It wasn’t as if the child needed to be told, she seemed to always wake him up extra early. He looked at Jayden when she mentioned special surprise. Smiling at her, he said, “Oooooo! Did you hear that Kaylee? Daddy gets a special surprise from Jayden! So do tell me my love, what is my special surprise? Kaylee was in the back seat grinning as well. “Me too daddy. Jayden said I get a special prize. Mine will be better because Jayden loves me more.” She said as a matter-of-factly.
“Are you sure? You have no reason to feel bad! I swear, you are so silly at times.” he said patting her knee to reassure her. Garret could tell that she felt awkward when he took her out to nice places, or bought her nice things. But Garret had gotten soft over the years, mainly thanks to Kaylee, and he became a bit of a giver. He loved to see a smile on Jayden’s face, and he tried in many ways to be the person to place it there.
He smiled when Jayden stole a kiss from him before he took Kaylee out of the car seat. He nodded his head when Jayden commented on Kaylee’s energy. “She’s been very excited to see you. You would think its been weeks since she saw you rather than days.” Kaylee smile and laid her head down on Jayden’s shoulder. If Garret would have had a camera, he would have snapped a picture then and there, his two favorite girls looking adorable together.
As they were seated, Garret laughed at Jayden’s comment. Taking the hand he was holding, he lifted it up and kissed it. “Jayden love, you have nothing to worry about. Some how, Liz just isn't my type. Plus, I’m sure she isn't as good of a kisser as you are love.” he said with a shudder at the thought of his lips being anywhere near Liz’s lips. Although he had to admit, there where times when he was convinced that Liz did have a thing for him, Like when him and Audz would be goofing off, and only Audrina would get in trouble. He found it hilarious, but Auds didn’t.
When asked about how things had been, he really started to think about it for a moment. Things for Garret were going okay, but slowly down hill. Kaylee was demanding more attention than he could provide, and he felt like shit knowing that. Then to top if all off, he had ran into Miranda two nights earlier. That was part of the reason he had brought Jayden out. He wasn’t going to be going out much until he could figure out what it was that Miranda was really after, and he wanted to take Jayden out one more time before they were condemned to delivered pizza and pay per view movies.
Just as Garret was about to tell Jayden about all of this, Ben, the waiter, came to take their order. Ben was fairly new to La Bella Vista. In fact, if Garret remembered right, this was only his second week there. Garret had worked with Ben a few times, and they had talked a little. Ben knew that Garret had a four year old, but that was about it. Garret aimlessly listened to Ben ramble the specials, Garret already knew them, but Garret couldn’t help but notice that Ben’s eyes never left Jayden’s face. Coughing, not so discretely, Garret ordered his stuffed ravioli and breadsticks, then ordered spaghetti for Kaylee. Handing Ben the menu’s he said “And Ben… When you deliver our food, can you try not to drool all over it. I know my girlfriend is very beautiful, but she doesn’t like drool in her Ziti.” Garret stifled a laugh when Ben’s eyes got big. “Oh…This must be your baby momma.” Frowning, Garret shook his head. “No Ben. Now shut up and take our orders to the cooks.” he said, dismissing the boy.
Making sure Kaylee was occupied with her crayons, Garret turned his attention back to Jayden. “Speaking of Kaylee’s mom, there’s something I need to tell you. Miranda is back in town. Remember the other night when you called and I said I was in the middle of something, well..I had ran into Miranda.” he said, pausing to see her reaction. “I’m not exactly sure why she’s back all of a sudden. But she did demand to see Kaylee, even if Kaylee isn't aware that Miranda is her mother. Jayden…What should I do? I don’t want Miranda to be out of Kaylee’s life, but I don’t want her to worm her way in, just to abandon her again. Am I so wrong? Am I being selfish?” he asked, mostly to himself, but loud enough for her to her.
Shaking out his bad thoughts about Miranda, he answered her question about the band. Taking a sip, he nodded and said ”Actually, We filled the positions yesterday. Charlie is our new drummer, and a girl named Ailey is our Bass player. Although we haven’t decided on a name yet.” he said with a grin.

sing us a song and we'll sing it back to you we could sing our own but what would it be without you
she looked at him, shaking her head as he spoke. "that's not a good thing! next thing you know she's going to be kissing those boys in kindergarden! kindergardeners have the worst tempers." she nodded her head matter of factly. she really didn't know that, but that's what she was going to say. she looked up at him as he talked to kaylee, and she laughed as he asked what it was. but before she could answer, she heard kaylee talking, and that just got her giggling again. "course, sweetie. yours is always going to be better." she turned to look up at the side of garret's head. "you're daddy's just going to have to be the bigger man." leaning over, she kissed his cheek, at the same time whispering in his ear so that kaylee wouldn't hear. "can we have a sleepover tomorrow?" she raised her eyebrow, her lamest attempts at a teasing, flirtatious smile on her face. she was horrible at that.
looking down at his hand as he patted her knee, she rolled her eyes. "i am not silly. i'm just....i dunno..." she frowned at him. "now you're making me feel bad about having doubts!" she playfully hit his upper arm. "you are mean to make me think like that, you know that?" but she laughed near the end of her sentence; she couldn't be mad at him. he was just too adorably perfect at the oddest times, like that.
"well, that's because i'm just lovable and she loves me. is that such a surprise?" she pouted at him as she held kaylee, and she turned her head, kissing the top of kaylee's head as the girl rested her head on her shoulder. she was probably the most adorable little thing she'd seen since her bunny when she was back in england. course, she'd been seven then; she thought ever little thing but bugs and snakes were adorable... she snapped out of her daydream mode as garret kissed her hand as they were being seated. hearing him, she laughed slightly. why was she laughing so much today? it was obviously a really good day. "okay. so i don't have to be jealous of you and an older woman. i know how some guys get turned on by wrinkles." she pretended to be glaring at liz with envy, but she silently laughed at the thought of that. that was just too scary to think about.
she had been watching kaylee coloring when the waiter came up. garret wasn't as oblivious to the glances as she thought; hearing him coughing, she turned to look at him, an eyebrow raised. but hearing him, she covered her mouth with her hand, trying not to laugh, but she could have sworn she let out the tiniest laugh, with the waiter, Ben, turning to look at her as she laughed. hearing his statement about jayden being kaylee's momma, she stared up at him, not laughing anymore. she didn't know why it got a bit awkward then, but she shook her head as he walked away. she looked back to garret as started talking. hearing the first few words, she tuned in right away. this was serious. hearing the name, she bit her lip, not sure if any emotion was showing on her face. miranda... it couldn't be the same, could it? she hadn't thought about miranda's ex since the first time they'd talked about it; miranda had just told him that she'd been in love with a boy that she knew during her late high school/early college years, and the two had had a few desputes over something big, before he left. it really couldn't be... but she went back to listening to garret, and hearing his questions, she looked at him. it was as though he were talking to himself. she reached over, taking both his hands in hers, her thumbs rubbing over the top of his hand.
"garret lee dublin, you are the least selfish boy i have ever met. you aren't being selfish or anything." she sighed. "if...if she wants to see kaylee....she has a right; she is her mother." she sent a quick glance in kaylee's direction; she was still preoccupied with her coloring, gladly. she turned back to him, talking. "just think it over. if you really, in the end, let mi....let her back in, then take it slowly. as a friend. you can't avoid her forever, and you can't deprive her of something she loves. garret, she wouldn't have come here if she didn't care about you both." she smiled at him as she picked up his hands, kissing each of his knuckles. "don't worry okay? things'll work out." she thought for a minute before giggling. "you know, it's funny. i have a friend named miranda, and for a second i'd thought you meant her." in her mind, it was funny, but she wasn't so certain...but she wasn't one to express doubt, so that was probalby going to be locked out of her mind.
she turned back to him as he took a sip of his water. hearing him, she grinned at him. "awh, that's great!" she'd heard tons of stories of his original band, and it sounded like something he really wanted to start up again. she took a sip of her own water. "names are difficult. well..... it should be a good one! you want your little girl to know her daddy was the founder of an awesome band with an awesome name." she laughed slightly; she honestly knew zip on actually playing music; she listened to a lot of different kinds, and that was it with her musical talents.
