returning to new york after visiting her mom was hard. audrina hadrunawaywent to visit her mom near the beginning of february, but no one, not even she really, knew why she did. she just needed time away, get her priorities straight. it also turned out that her mom avery was going to north carolina to visit her sick mother, so when audrina went home for spring break and such, there was the biggest, and most likely, chance she wouldn't be there to greet audrina. so now, even though she had a month till then, she would have had to plan. even though she'd been gone for only a month, it seemed to have some sort of effect on audrina. ever since her return she hadn't been bouncing and happy as she had used to be, the one many loved, and was annoyed by. she seemed to have more control over herself; she was more quiet, more calm, more collected. she was even doing her homework beforehand instead of at the last minute like she used to do. spending time with her mother somehow had affected her. all she really would say was that she and her mom talked a lot in that month she'd gone back home, and it was a big change indeed.
in the few days she'd been back in new york, she hadn't seen any of her friends. not camden, not garret, nobody. she hadn't even told them that she'd been leaving for a while. she wasn't sure why she hadn't even bought it up with any of them; it was actually a surprise things for her. in fact, she found herself even thinking about it that morning as she laid in bed. she glanced at her alarm clock, seeing that it was almost eleven in the morning. normally she wasn't one to lay in bed all day, but she didn't know what to do. so, she picked up her phone, scrolling in her phone book until she got to garret's name. she texted him, telling him that she was back, and if he could, or wanted to, they could hang out later, hopefully. throwing her phone back onto the side table, she threw off the covers, and jumped out of bed.
it was time to become best friends with new york city all over again. just because her homework patterns had changed and she was quieter didn't mean she didn't know how to have fun. that was something she was very good at. grabbing a towel, she walked into the bathroom. she quickly stripped down and took a shower, spending probably the slightest bit more time than necessary cleaning herself. but she got out soon enough before her whole day was wasted in a shower. which wouldn't be that nice once she thought about it. blow drying her hair, she turned her straightener on before getting dressed. as soon as she found a good outfit, she got dressed quickly, managing to not fall over and hurt herself in the process. soon, she was decent to go out and do whatever. grabbing her essentials, she opened her door, walking out of her dorm. she walked down the hall, skipping down the steps two at a time. taking her phone back out as she hit the bottom of the stairs, she glanced down at it. it was only about eleven in the morning. she didn't think she'd have anything to do for the day, because most of her friends ( besides garret, who was forced awake at six every morning by his adorable little daughter, kaylee ) would be in bed at that time.
oh well. she'd figure out what to do as she roamed the city. it was her day to roam the city. sure, she knew every inch of new york almost, but she didn't care. she'd rather waste her life away exploring the city than being bored in her dorm. pulling the door open, she welcomed the warm breeze that was coming in. it was the beginning of march, snow had let up, and she was happy about it. she didn't have to wear seven layers just to get to her classes anymore. she walked down the street, flashing a smile to some of the passersby on the street. some of them she knew; she'd either met them in town, or were introduced to some of them by other people. she knew too many people for her own good.
she wanted to go skating. she wasn't even halfway down the street, yet she knew what she wanted to do. she hadn't ice skating in such a long time, she missed it. sure, she was never really the best ice skater around, but she was good enough that she wouldn't fall on her face on the ice. so, she quickened her pace as the skating rink loomed into view. she wondered who was working that day. she didn't think it was emma; emma usually worked the night shift. it might have been that girl addie, emma's best friend, but she couldn't be too certain. eh, it didn't matter, really. as long as people were there she wasn't going to look completely alone. she flashed a smile to mr. detato, the owner of the small pawn shop that was across the street from the skating rink. glancing both ways, she ran across, hear ing a horn honking. as she reached the other side, she let out a laugh; she knew whoever it was that honked at her wouldn't really like her now.
she opened the door to the skating rink, automatically feeling the difference between the slightly warm weather outside and the controlled temperature inside. she walked in, and glanced at the rink. yes, there were people there. she was thankful for that. she'd be awfully alone if it was her. she walked up to the desk near the entrance area. yes, it wasn't anyone she knew. addie wasn't working yet. paying for her ticket to get in, plus her ticket to get skates, she walked over to the next little booth, where she got a pair of skates. flashing a grin, she walked over to one of the benches and sat down. she took off her sneakers before shoving her feet into the skates and laced them. standing up hesitantly, she let her feet get used to the awkward balance first before she took off. taking an uneasy step forward, she managed to balance herself. but just in case...she held onto the wall as she walked the side of the rink until she reached an entrance.
stepping into the ice carefully, she stood there for a second, watching some of the little kids that were there skating with their parents. slowly, she pushed off, gliding across the ice slowly. it felt good to skate across the ice. she loved the feeling that she was flying. and not the flying people felt when they were high. that wasn't the type of high she was into. but those thoughts aside; she pushed herself further, finally getting the hang of being on the ice. she skated around a few times, just to warm up. she was never a professional skater or anything, but she did take lessons, so she wasn't as horrible as she could be. it would just take time for her to remember how to do any of those tricks. but she had all day, and no one to bug her. that made her slightly sad...
